Olive oil is moisturising to the skin and when used an an ingredient in soap, can keep skin healthy and nourished. Moisturise Soap made with olive oil is a natural and hypo-allergenic way to nourish and moisturise skin. Soap made with olive oil helps the skin's surface retain moisture. Regular use helps keep skin looking supple and smooth. Antioxidant Activity Since olive oil contains high levels of many antioxidants, including vitamins A and E, it has the ability to renew and repair free radical damage in skin. Using soap made with olive oil helps protect and reverse the damage and wrinkles caused by sun exposure, pollution, smoke and an unhealthy diet. Additionally, the antioxidants present in soap with olive oil stimulate skin cells, leading to regrowth and maintenance of healthy, firm skin. Cleansing Olive oil soap also has cleansing properties. When olive oil is applied to the skin it adheres to dirt which can then be scraped off. Adding soap ingredients to the olive oil provides a better smelling, less greasy way to keep skin clean and healthy. History Soap is an ancient product, as old as man's need to clean himself. Soaps do not only have hygienic benefits but they were also conceived as ointments dedicated to alleviating aches and pains or to relax the body. Its true, that what we now consider today as soap, is far from the soap that was used in ancient times as in the Middle Ages or even in more recent times. The objective of the product was exactly: to eliminate the dirt from clothes and the human body, however its composition has varied a lot. Natural artisan soaps are composed of animal fat or oils such as olive oil, mixed together with an alkaline substance such as, for example, sodium hydroxide (pure lye). However, soaps and detergents contain synthetic chemical substances whose objectives are to produce a large amount of foam. And as a result, foam has been related to cleanliness even though this is in fact a complete myth. Back in the days before soap was invented, it is said that when the ancient Egyptians wanted to clean themselves, they spread olive oil on their skin. The olive oil stuck to the dirt, and could then be scraped away. The first testimonial source made a reference to a soap-like product from III millennium BC, in ancient Mesopotamia, the land which was the origin of the great civilizations of mankind.
